Tour Overview

7 Days Machame Route:

This is the path we propose if you are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for the first time and want to have a great time. The Machame route, often known as the “Whiskey route,” increases your chances of reaching Africa’s highest point. The Machame route is steeper in sections than the Marangu, Rongai, and Lemosho climb.

The Machame path is the busiest of all Kilimanjaro routes due to its high success rate and attractiveness. The Machame path also offers the best acclimation experience as well as the best views of the peak. Visitors benefit from favorable weather conditions across five climatic zones, increasing their chances of reaching the top

Day to day Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival Day

When you arrive in Tanzania, whether via Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be greeted by our professional driver guide, who will provide you with crucial information and details regarding your trip and program.

He will assist you with loading and sorting your things before driving you to your hotel for rest, dinner, and overnight stay. Your driver guide will share the best stories and information about Tanzania and its people's culture with you on the trip to the hotel.

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Elevation: 1800m to 2835m

The journey to Machame Gate begins shortly after breakfast in the morning. Your guide and the rest of the team will meet you at the hotel to prepare you for the adventure. Following the completion of the hotel checkout routine, all crew members board the car for the drive to Machame Gate.  The team will greet you with a big smile and some inspiring Swahili songs about Kilimanjaro.

Before accessing the park, visitors and crew must register at the gate. This is to help the park's administration keep track of all tourists and visitors. You will be provided hot water to wash your body and a nice dinner when you reach the Machame Camp.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp Cave Camp

Elevation: 2835m to 3750m.

Another incredible day of the Kilimanjaro Adventure begins early in the morning. Get up and join your tour leader for a nice breakfast. Your guide will give you day hints while you eat breakfast to help you understand how the remainder of the day will go.

You start walking after breakfast, leaving the jungle behind. You hike past small water streams and up a steep rocky ridge before turning west to the Shira campsite where you will rest, dine, and camp for the night.

Day 3: Shira Camp Cave to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Elevation: 3750m to 4600m to 3900m

Continue going east from Shira Camp up the ridge, past the junction to Kibo Peak. The path gradually shifts to the southeast, heading to Lava Tower and eventually to Barranco Camp.

Today is a wonderful day for adaptation and enjoying the altitude change on Kilimanjaro, as climbers will walk up to high altitude and sleep at a low level at Barranco Campsite. Lava Tower Camp will provide lunch, and Barranco Camp will serve dinner.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Elevation: 3900m to 3995m

Following breakfast, a hike up the Barranco wall to Karanga camp begins. We advise you to leave the camp as soon as possible so that you can recuperate after the wall. It is not tough to climb the wall because it just takes an hour and a half to reach the top. The Barranco Wall provides great photo opportunities as well as a breathtaking vista of the Barranco Valley.

Walking up to the Karanga Campsite, which is 4670 meters above sea level, is more of a climbing experience, and it also acts as a warm-up for ascending to the summit of Kilimanjaro. A typical 5-kilometer trek in this area takes about 4-5 hours.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation: 3995m to 4700m

After breakfast, you start trekking from Karanga Campsite to Barafu Campsite, which is 4670 meters above sea level, a 5-kilometer trip that will take you between 4-5 hours. The Barafu Campsite will provide lunch and dinner.

This day will allow you to recover, adapt, and prepare for the summit walk the next day, which will start at about 00:00 a.m.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Hut

Elevation: 4670m to 5895m to 3100m

The trek to the summit begins around 2:00 a.m., conducted by your head guide and assistant guide, and supported by expert porters carrying light backpacks with your necessary goods for usage on the top. The ascent to the summit is a challenging undertaking that demands both mental and physical stamina.

At Stella Point (5,756 m), you can take a quick rest and be rewarded with the most beautiful sunrise you've ever seen. During your one-hour journey to the summit, you may encounter snow. Uhuru Peak is the highest peak on Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent. For speedier hikers, the sunrise will be visible from the peak.

We descend directly from the summit to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping for lunch at Barafu.

Day 7: Mweka Hut to Mweka Gate

Elevation: 3100m to 1640m

We will continue trekking down to Mweka Gate after breakfast, where you will collect your Kilimanjaro Climbing Summit Certificate. Because the soil is normally wet and slippery at lower elevations, it is recommended that you wear gaiters and only use your walking poles to support your body and avoid falling.

You will be served a sumptuous lunch at Mweka Gate and will celebrate your last day with the entire team. The journey to Arusha or Moshi will commence after the celebration and lunch.
