Day to day Itinerary
Day 0: Arrival Day
When you arrive in Tanzania, whether through Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be met by our native professional driver guide, who will provide you with crucial information and facts regarding your trip and program.
He will help you pack and sort your things before bringing you to your hotel for rest, dinner, and overnight. On the trip to the hotel, your driver guide will share the best stories and information about Tanzania and its people's culture with you.
Day 1: Rongai gate to Simba Cave Camp
Elevation: 1997m to 2635m
Meet your guide and the rest of the crew at your hotel after breakfast to begin the 4-hour trip to Rongai Gate, which is close to the Kenyan border in the country's northeast When you get at the park's entrance, you can either sit and wait for lunch or go through the jungle, keeping your eyes open for blue monkeys swinging from tree branches. You'll continue trekking soon after lunch to the first camp, where you'll eat dinner and spend the night.
Day 2: Simba Cave Camp to Kikelelwa
Elevation: 2620m to 3600m
After breakfast, we continue our journey across the moorland zone, where the flora changes to shrubs and grasses. Lunch will be provided in the second cave, near the intersection of the third cave and the Kikelelwa Camp. Then head east to Kikelelwa Camp, where you'll spend the night.
Day 3: Kikelelwa Camp to Mawenzi tarn
Elevation: 3600m to 4330m
A short but steep walk up grassy slopes rewards you with breathtaking vistas. Leave the greenery behind as you approach Mawenzi Tarn, which is magnificently situated in a cirque just beneath Mawenzi's towering spires. The afternoon will be free to rest or explore the local area as part of the acclimatization process.
If you have an extra day on the mountain, you will spend two nights camping here. You can trek up and around Mawenzi for your acclimatization hike
Day 4: Mawenzi Tarn camp to Kibo Camp
Elevation: 4330m to 4700m
The trek to the higher camp today continues over a stunning lunar environment. The Kibo Camp is located just beneath Kibo mountain, which offers a stunning view of the Kenyan plain. Mawenzi and the trail are also visible from here. After lunch, you can rest and replenish strength before the next day's summit push to Kilimanjaro!
Day 5: Kibo Camp to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Elevation: 4700m to 5895m to 3720m
The hike begins at midnight, and you'll be awakened with a hot cup of tea and a croissant before setting off in the dark. When we reach Meyer Cave, you'll be able to take a break and refuel with an energy bar. As the terrain steepens, we'll continue twisting our way to Gilman's Point.
Before traversing the crater to Stella Point, you'll take a short break on the crater rim to sip some water and rest. Our porters will have arrived ahead of schedule and will have prepared some ginger tea for us to drink before the last push to warm our insides.
We'll next gradually make our way to Uhuru Peak, where you may take in the breathtaking vistas, pose for photos, and celebrate your tremendous accomplishment while standing on Africa's highest point! We will then descend the mountain straight down to the Kibo Hut, where we will relax, eat, and celebrate before returning to the Horombo Hut.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu gate
Elevation: 3720m to 1830m
After breakfast and a poignant ceremony of thanks and team bonding with your crew, it's time to say farewell. We continue downhill, pausing for lunch at the Mandara Huts. Because you'll be leaving them behind, remember to tip your guides, cooks, and porters.
Return to Marangu Park Gate to pick up your summit certificates. Because of the warmer weather, the terrain is damp, muddy, and steep, and we strongly recommend gaiters and trekking poles. You will be met at the gate and driven back to your accommodation in Arusha or Moshi.
