5 Days Marangu Route

Number of Days:

5 Days

Destinations

Mandara Huts, Horombo Huts. Kibo Huts, Summit & Marangu Gate

Tour Overview

The 5 Days Marangu Route. The Marangu Route, commonly known as the Coca-Cola Route, is more popular because it is shorter and features permanent sleep huts at the campgrounds. This is considered one of the easier paths to the peak due to its mild slope and direct path. While you enjoy the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro, our skilled guides will make sure everything runs well from beginning to end.

Acclimatization may be more difficult because the paths are more direct than others. After all, the trip is only 5 days long. The night trek from Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak is difficult and includes a stop at Gilman’s Point. It offers fewer advantages because it is a shorter route with a steeper ascent and less time for acclimatization. It has a lower success rate on the summit.

Day to day Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival Day

When you arrive in Tanzania, whether via Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be greeted by our native professional driver guide, who will provide you with crucial information and details regarding your trip and program.

He will assist you with loading and sorting your things before bringing you to the hotel for rest, dinner, and overnight. Your driving guide will share the best stories and information about Tanzania and its people's culture with you on the trip to the hotel.

Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Huts

Elevation: 1830m to 2740m

After breakfast, depart for Marangu Gate from Moshi or Arusha. We'll wait patiently for our permits while watching the hustle and bustle of operations as several crews prepare for the road ahead.

You may enjoy the gorgeous rainforest scenery and windy trails as your guide teach you about the local flora and fauna and natural species. At these lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are strongly advised.

Day 2: Mandara Huts to Horombo Huts

Elevation: 2740m to 3690m

After a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast, we leave the rain forest and proceed on an uphill trail through the heathland in search of huge lobelias and groundsels. Continue up into the wide moorlands, which are dominated by tiny shrubs.

Stop halfway for lunch and to take in Mawenzi's beautiful vistas. Arrive at the Horombo Huts late in the afternoon, which are located beneath the beautiful Kibo Summit viewpoint. The temperature begins to drop.

Day 3: Horombo Huts to Kibo Huts

Elevation: 3690m to 4695m

After breakfast, we continue ascending through fading heathland that melts into a moonscape as you approach the wide saddle that joins Mawenzi and Kibo. You may look at the summit climb up Kibo that you'll start in a few hours here as we eat lunch, and later when you cross this unexpectedly large saddle.

Day 4: Kibo Huts to Summit

Elevation: 4695m to 5895m

The excitement grows as the morning approaches, with an early start between midnight and 1 a.m. This is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the journey.
We keep ascending in a switchback pattern, trying to stay warm and focused on the amazing sense of accomplishment that awaits us.

Using a switchback motion, we ascend through thick scree and maybe snow to Gillman's Point on the crater rim. You will be rewarded with a magnificent sunrise during your brief time here. The sunrise may be visible from the peak for faster hikers. On your final 1-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak, you will almost certainly encounter snow.

Bravo! You've arrived at Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent as a whole!

After photos, celebrations, and probably a few tears of pleasure, we take a few moments to savor this great achievement. We start our ascent to Mweka Camp, resting for lunch and a short rest at Barafu.

We strongly recommend gaiters and trekking poles for uncooperative loose gravel and volcano ash terrain. Enjoy some well-deserved relaxation on your final evening on the mountain. Mweka Camp overnight stay

Day 5: Horombo Huts to Marangu Gate

Elevation: 3690m to 1830m

After breakfast and a poignant ceremony of thanks and team bonding with your crew, it's time to say farewell. We continue downhill, pausing for lunch at the Mandara Huts. Because you'll be leaving them behind, remember to tip your guides, cooks, and porters.

Return to Marangu Park Gate to pick up your summit certificates. Because of the warmer weather, the terrain is damp, muddy, and steep, and we strongly recommend gaiters and trekking poles. You will be met at the gate and
